Questions & Answers

What should I bring?

A camera or phone is a must have item. Sunscreen, towel, sunglasses and a hat (big floppy ones tend to blow overboard). You may also want to bring binoculars for a better view of the coastline or for dolphin watching.  We provide white wine, beer, soda and water.  You may bring another drink of your choice if you prefer.  Please no red wine as it stains the boat if spilled.  The rest is up to us!

The forecast calls for 30% chance of rain, will it rain on my charter?

This is probably the number one question, and for the most part, no it will not rain on you. During the spring, summer, and fall months Beaufort often has a forecast for a 30% chance of rain. Thunderstorms do pop up on occasion, but it is rare we would have to cancel. We will not sail in unsafe weather or ocean conditions. Your safety is our number one priority.

If you’re contemplating booking a charter but see the forecast is not looking absolutely perfect, book anyway, as it will most likely be a great day. Too many times people wait until the day before to see if the forecast improves and then its too late as others have booked or crew have made other plans. Last minute charters are hard to put together. In the rare instance we must cancel, you can either reschedule or get a full refund.

Should we have a brief shower the large Bimini and spray hood will provide protection.

Is Bravado safe?

Bravado is clean, well maintained, and fully insured for charter. She meets and exceeds safety requirements by the United States Coast Guard. On board equipment includes Type-1 Personal Flotation Devices (life jackets) for every passenger, Coast Guard certified life raft, fire extinguishers, flares, smoke and CO detectors, a VHF radio and a GPS system. Captain Tony possesses a valid Captains license issued by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Do children or infants count as a passenger?

Yes, they do. The United States Coast Guard considers every person, except the Captain, as a passenger. Also, any child under the age of 12 must wear a USCG approved Type 1 PFD provided by the charter. Children require supervision by parent or guardian at all times.

Will I get seasick?

The majority of our guests do not get seasick. Concerned passengers could bring products that contain ginger, such as ginger cookies or Ginger Ale. If you’re prone to motion sickness there are several over the counter products you may want to consider. One that seems to work quite well is Bonine** and will not make you drowsy. It is suggested to start taking it the night before your charter for maximum effectiveness.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule your trip, we require a minimum of 7 days prior to your charter date for a full refund. Cancellation within 72 hours will provide a 75% refund, 48 hours a 50% refund. No refund will be issued for anything less than 48 hours. We must adhere to this policy. Crew has been retained, food purchased, and we may have missed the opportunity to book another charter.

What happens if there is bad weather?

Cancellations due to weather are at the discretion of the Captain. If we must cancel your trip because of unfavorable or unsafe weather or ocean conditions, you’ll be given the option of rescheduling or a full refund.

May a charter be purchased as a gift?

Should I tip the captain and crew?

If you enjoyed your experience and thought we provided you with a great experience, by all means please feel free to tip.  Captain and crew are not only responsible for your safety but are also your servers and tour guides. They work extremely hard to make your time on Bravado the best experience possible. Gratuity for your captain and crew is not included in the price and is discretionary.

What if there is no wind?

Not to worry. Although we prefer to sail (we’re sailors!), Bravado is equipped with an inboard diesel engine. So regardless of the wind conditions we will get you to the Cape and back right on time.
